Senior Product Manager

Great opportunity for an experienced life science product manager to lead the marketing for the cell biology and proteomics portfolio

Remote or head office based (Southampton)

Primary Function
(Senior) Product Manager to define, with input from the Head of Strategic Marketing, the strategic direction of the product area. Overall responsibility for implementation of the defined Sales and Marketing Plan and achievement of set goals, including customer strategies, channel strategies, partnering/external collaborations and promotional plans. Provide strong business development in high growth or potential high growth areas either alone or in support of sales teams in key customer accounts. Ongoing development of expert knowledge regarding all aspects of the products (technical knowledge) and the market segments (customers, competitors, applications, technology, regulations, suppliers etc.) is essential to exploit business opportunities.

Role and Key Responsibilities (Senior Product Manager/Product Manager)
- Development of Value Proposition for the products in established markets (e.g. 3D cell culture) or new markets (e.g. inflammation)
- Supporting the UK sales teams (remotely or in the field) with product knowledge, pricing decisions and all other aspects necessary to ensure products are sold successfully into our market
- Business Development of new and existing product offering to marketplace
- Working with new and existing customers to understand unique selling points (USP) and challenges in the marketplace for the products
- Managing the output of high-quality marketing pieces and their dissemination to the marketplace: overall responsibility (with support from HSMBD and HMS) for the end result of marketing campaigns
- Manage the transition of pre-launch CAS products into catalogue and ensure appropriate marketing and business development support is provided

Product Portfolio Focus
- Champion for the following product areas:
Cell Based Assays - Cell Health and Signalling including Luminescent Reporter Assays/Kinase Assays/ Emerging Technologies (Catalogue)
- Responsible for supporting the business strategy for the defined product area, including product positioning, identifying new market segments, training sales teams (using SPIN selling approach) and anticipating and delivering customer satisfaction
- Establish and maintain lines of communication at all appropriate levels for sales prospects, internal staff and other external contacts to develop specific customer needs identification, analysis, product awareness and sales
- To develop and implement marketing plans such as; customer strategies, channel strategies, promotional plan and product launches
- Technical knowledge in product area to include input for marketing materials, support to customers and sales teams, including training
- Key account support including support for the sales team and distributors
- Provide hands-on in-lab demonstration and customer training
- Attend key industry meetings/exhibitions
- Monitor and report competitor activities, technical developments, pricing and trends
- Responsible for analysis of product sales and profitability
- Technical writing for marketing materials and internet

Specific routine tasks
- New product pricing and launch
- Pricing information and discounting options for specific opportunities/requests
- Quote request
- Working with the sales teams on promotions and offers
- Sales analysis of CBAP products
- Product Wet-lab demos and sales training to support sales teams
- Competitive analysis; understanding market trends, applications and techniques
- Promotions and offers to boost key products - e.g. CBAP
- Explore, manage and utilise new areas of marketing delivery like Video Case Studies and Webinars

Essential Skills & Qualifications
- PhD in cell-based assays (preferred) or a life sciences degree with 18 months or more experience in a laboratory performing cell based assays
- Previous experience selling scientific products, proven ability to secure high value purchase orders
- A marketing qualification such as CIM would be beneficial
- Ability to source and assimilate customer needs and market information
- Highly responsive and motivated self-starter, capable of working with minimum supervision to achieve sales targets
- Candidate should be very self-motivated, determined and personable
- Capable of learning and communicating features and benefits of highly innovative products to customers
- Able to listen and respond to customer needs
- Ability to develop and implement marketing plans
- Well organized, structured and able to deliver under pressure
- Ability to use a range of PC based applications - Excel, Word and Outlook key
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

Experience (Senior Product Manager)
- Recent Product Management experience (>3y) in a life sciences company
- Business development and/or direct sales experience in a life sciences company (>3y)
- Demonstrable experience (>3y) and success with delivering key collaborations with external companies and partners, delivering accelerated market access and significant revenue within an appropriate timescale
