BVA thoughts amid Brexit uncertainty

18th January 2019

British Veterinary Association president Simon Doherty has appealed to the veterinary profession to stand united during a period of adjustment as Brexit comes ever closer to reality. He alluded to lots of good things that had changed within the veterinary profession in the last few years and believes progress made in areas like creating a good workplace, diversity, physical and mental health and careers structure would continue to be made for the general good of the profession.
Mr Doherty said: “Certainly, 2019 is going to be a year of phenomenal change with Brexit, regardless of what way we end up going with some kind of deal, or no deal, there’s going to be a phenomenal amount of change across medicines, pet transport, agriculture and issues around the veterinary workforce. At some point we need real clarity (around Brexit). We need a deal to be agreed in some shape or form that everybody can start working from. Once we reach that point, we can continue to build (the profession). I think the one message I’d like to send to the veterinary community is we must stick together.”
