Unilever announces structural reorganisation

15th March 2018

Unilever has announced a number of significant changes to its corporate structure designed to ensuring the business will be more flexible and agile in future.

The company will be organised into three core divisions –  Beauty and Personal Care, Home Care, and Foods and Refreshment – with the first two being headquartered in London, while the latter will be based in Rotterdam.

This arrangement will secure nearly GBP 1 billion per year of continued spend in the UK, including a significant commitment to research and development. The firm currently employs 7,300 people in the UK and 3,100 people in the Netherlands, none of whom will be affected by these changes.

Marijn Dekkers, chairman of Unilever, said: "The board believes the move to three divisions and the simplification of our corporate structure will create a simpler, more agile and more focused company with increased strategic flexibility for value-creating portfolio change."

Additionally, the company is set to simplify from two legal entities – Unilever NV and Unilever – PLC, into a single legal entity incorporated in the Netherlands. This will strengthen the firm's corporate governance, creating a 'one share, one vote' principle for all shareholders.
