Medical Company Restructures

Smith and Nephew has announced the appointment of Roland Diggelmann as a non-executive director as of March 1st 2018.

Mr Diggelmann is the chief executive officer at Roche Diagnostics and a member of the corporate executive committee of the Roche group, which he originally joined in 2008 as head of the Asia-Pacific region before taking on his current role in 2012.

“Smith and Nephew has appointed Roland Diggelmann, chief executive of Roche Diagnostics, as a new non-executive director.“

Prior to being hired by Roche, he served as managing director for Japan and later as executive vice-president for European sales and distribution for Zimmer. Other previous employers include Sulzer Orthopedics and Sulzer Medical/Centerpulse.

As such, he can offer significant international experience of business leadership, particularly in Japan and other parts of Asia, which are important markets for Smith and Nephew.

Roberto Quarta, chairman of Smith and Nephew, said: "As we have said previously, we have been looking to strengthen our board with a non-executive director who has direct experience in our orthopaedic field of medical devices."
