Unilever to acquire personal care brand Schmidt's Naturals

Consumer Healthcare News

Unilever has announced the acquisition of Schmidt's Naturals, a US personal care company offering naturally-formulated products.

Founded in Oregon in 2010 by Jaime Schmidt, Schmidt's Naturals began as a deodorant brand, offering award-winning formulas derived from plants and minerals, before extending its offering to bar soap and toothpaste.

“Unilever has announced the acquisition of Schmidt's Naturals, a personal care company based in Oregon.“

Its most popular variants include Charcoal and Magnesium, Rose and Vanilla, and Lavender and Sage, as well as its fragrance-free offerings. It is expected that these offerings will complement Unilever's existing portfolio of deodorants, such as Degree, Axe and Dove.

Following the completion of the deal, which is expected to take place in the first quarter of 2018, Ms Schmidt and Michael Cammarata will continue to be involved with the brand.

Alan Jope, president of Unilever Personal Care, added: “Schmidt’s Naturals is a great strategic fit for our personal care business, allowing us to reach new consumers who prefer natural options. We look forward to utilising our personal care leadership to extend Schmidt’s Naturals into new sales channels and geographies.”
