Hologic receives CE Mark for SculpSure laser treatment

Hologic has announced that its new SculpSure body contouring laser treatment has received a new European CE Mark approval.

Additional European Medical Device Directive certification has been granted for the device, meaning it can now be used for the treatment of double chin, also known as the submental area.

Submental treatment requires practitioners to purchase a simple laser attachment, allowing treatment applicators to fit seamlessly on to the area to carry out the lipolysis procedure.

SculpSure uses a laser to raise the temperature of body fat to disrupt and destroy fat cells under the skin. Each treatment lasts approximately 25 minutes and requires no surgery or downtime, with cells that are eliminated remaining permanently gone.

Kevin Thornal, president of the Cynosure business at Hologic, said the new device "will provide healthcare professionals with a distinct treatment advantage that can drive demand and widen their patient communities".

SculpSure is also certified in Europe to treat the abdomen, flanks, back, and inner and outer thighs.
