Weber Shandwick has announced the appointment of Tim Sutton to the role of chief executive officer for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Mr Sutton, the current chairman of the agency's EMEA and Asia-Pacific regions, will assume executive leadership of the business unit in January 2018, coinciding with the departure of current European boss Colin Byrne after more than two decades with the firm.

“Weber Shandwick has named Tim Sutton as chief executive officer for its European, Middle East and Africa business, as well as unveiling a new leadership team.“

Before joining Weber Shandwick, Mr Sutton was chairman of Orpheus Group and of BSMG Worldwide's European operations, while he has also served as chief executive of UK PR firm Charles Barker.

Additionally, a new strategic leadership board has been put in place to support the new boss, which includes UK healthcare leader Lucie Harper and EMEA healthcare head Rachael Pay, as well as others such as client services head Hugh Baillie and London managing director Rachel Friend.

Andy Polansky, global chief executive officer of Weber Shandwick, said: "Tim brings more than 35 years of experience in the PR industry and has had previous direct experience of running our EMEA business very successfully."
