BD hails 20th anniversary of PleurX catheter launch

Medical Company Product News

BD has highlighted the success of its PleurX catheter system on the 20th anniversary of its US market launch.

Approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in June 1997, the catheter has been used in the treatment of more than 400,000 patients with pleural effusions and malignant ascites in over 50 countries.

“BD has marked 20 years since the successful launch of its PleurX catheter system.“

Studied in more than 50 clinical articles, the system has been highlighted as a clinically proven solution for fragile patients with terminal conditions, allowing them to take control of and effectively manage their symptoms.

More recently, it was approved for use in the delivery of sclerosing agents and for recurrent pleural effusions due to congestive heart failure.

Ryan Lipe, senior business director for interventional specialties at BD, said: "We have continuously supported ongoing research, evolved our portfolio with expanded indications and introduced product enhancements to ensure the best options are available to these patients in their most vulnerable days."

BD remains dedicated to expanding this platform further to be able to help more patients and provide new flexible options to clinicians.
