Zimmer Biomet launches new X-PSI knee system in Europe

Medical Company Product News

Zimmer Biomet has announced the European launch of its new X-PSI surgical planning system for total knee replacement surgery.

The  X-ray-based patient-specific instrument is the first device of its kind that allows patient-specific implant positioning with X-ray technology alone to receive European CE Mark approval.

“Zimmer Biomet is launching its new X-PSI surgical planning system for knee replacements in Europe.“

As such, it allows surgeons to use X-ray images to generate 3D anatomic models and develop a customised surgical plan, patient-specific guides and bone models, leading to better implant fitting and placement accuracy overall.

Additionally, the technology is able to leverage standard-of-care preoperative X-ray imaging instead of magnetic resonance imaging and computerised tomography scans, further enhancing its utility.

Dan Williamson, president of Zimmer Biomet's joint reconstruction business, said: "We are thrilled to debut the first CE Marked, X-ray-based patient-specific instrument system, and extend the benefits of customised surgical planning to joint replacement patients across the EU."

X-PSI represents the fourth patient-specific guide from the company's personalised solutions franchise, and will be initially launched in five European countries.
