Biotronik's CLS technology earns praise from cardiology experts

Biotronik's innovative closed loop stimulation (CLS) technology for cardiac devices has been praised by experts attending the 2016 Heart Rhythm Congress.

Cardiology professionals spoke during a session at the congress in Birmingham on October 10th praising the impact of CLS technology, which is available exclusively in Biotronik cardiac devices.

“Biotronik's closed loop stimulation technology has won praise from experts attending the recent Heart Rhythm Congress in Birmingham.“

By adjusting the heart rate based on mental stress as well as physical activity, CLS pacemakers have proven uniquely capable of detecting the increase in heart muscle contractility that may occur in the early stage of a syncope.

During the event, Dr Mark Walsh of Bristol Children's Hospital spoke of his experience using the system to treat a teenage patient who experienced debilitating fainting episodes due to a severe case of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome.

Since receiving a Biotronik pacemaker with CLS, the patient has returned to school and resumed some normal activities, with Dr Walsh calling the change "remarkable".

Session chair Dr Riyaz Kaba of the Ashford and St Peter's Hospital and St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: "CLS is a fascinating innovation. As it is currently the subject of the B3 and BIOSync clinical trials, I predict it will be strongly embraced by the cardiology community in the coming years."
