Hologic's 3D mammography tech surpasses 2,000 installations

Scientific Company News

Hologic has announced that its 2,000th 3D mammography system worldwide has now been installed, highlighting the considerable success of the technology since its launch.

The company's groundbreaking 3D mammography exam, which is available on the Selenia Dimensions platform, is being relaunched under the Genius 3D Mammography brand name, accompanied by a new consumer awareness campaign.

“Hologic has marked the installation of its 2,000th 3D mammography system worldwide.“

Designed to allow doctors to see masses and distortions associated with cancers more clearly than traditional 2D mammography, the technology has been shown to detect 41 percent more invasive breast cancers, while significantly reducing the number of false alarms.

Its performance has been proven in a Journal of the American Medical Association study involving 450,000 exams, 139 doctors and 13 leading academic and clinical sites.

Stephen MacMillan, Hologic's president and chief executive officer, said: "Genius 3D Mammography is possibly the single greatest breakthrough in breast cancer detection in 30 years. Every woman deserves the most accurate mammogram possible."

This comes after last month's European introduction of the company's Tomcat pre-analytical sample processing instrument, following its successful launch in the US this summer.
