Welch Allyn launches extra-small disposable vaginal speculum

Medical Company Product News

Welch Allyn has announced the launch of what is described as the industry's first ever extra-small disposable vaginal speculum.

The KleenSpec Disposable Vaginal Speculum device will be made available in August 2012 and is designed to work with the Welch Allyn Cordless Illumination System.

Its smooth moulded acrylic composition will not pinch or bind tissue and its wide handles offer enhanced ergonomics, while their single-use nature helps to avoid contamination and eliminate the need for reprocessing.

Other benefits include an LED light source that performs better than traditional halogen systems and a cordless design that offers freedom of movement.

Tracy Bennett, manager for physical assessment at Welch Allyn, said: "Our new extra-small disposable vaginal speculum will allow obstetricians, gynaecologists and family physicians to perform a comfortable, safe exam with virginal and paediatric patients as well as post-menopausal and post-hysterectomy women."

This week, the company showcased a number of other products at the 2012 World of Health IT Congress, including the Connex Integrated Wall System.
