Covidien launches AccuMesh positioning system for hernia repair

Medical Company Product News

Covidien has announced the introduction of its new AccuMesh positioning system for use in minimally invasive ventral hernia repair procedures.

The new endomechanical device will soon be added to the company's hernia care product portfolio and is designed to facilitate the insertion, deployment and placement of the Parietex optimised composite mesh.

Offering an expandable frame and precise articulation control, the new system compares favourably to traditional laparoscopic ventral hernia repair methods in terms of accuracy and operating time.

It will help to address the challenges currently involved in accurately positioning meshes relative to the defect, which is among the most difficult aspects of this process at present.

Paul Hermes, vice-president and chief technology officer at Covidien Surgical Solutions, said: "Covidien continues to be a market leader through the expansion of its comprehensive, innovative hernia care portfolio ... We strive to consistently address the issues that matter most to surgeons when delivering optimal patient care."

Last month, the company announced plans to acquire Newport Medical Instruments and superDimension as it seeks to further broaden its commercial capabilities.
