ExceleraRx Corp. and Smith & Nephew have announced they will work together to ensure access to specialty pharmaceuticals is available to health system specialty patients. These drugs need special handing, administration and storage, and are often used in the treatment of acute and chronic wounds of very ill and clinically complex patients. The Excelera network has point-of-care specialty pharmacies owned by health systems and academic medical centres, and provides members the help they need to develop best practices, gain access to limited-distribution drugs and biologics, and provide continuity of care for their patients.
Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing, Smith & Nephew Advanced Wound Management, Mike Zagger, said: “According to HCUP1, one in five patients who receive debridement of a wound, burn or infection in the hospital are readmitted within 30 days. By partnering with Excelera, we have an opportunity to help hospitals and providers deliver accurate treatment, wound management education and comprehensive care plans which may reduce the number of readmissions."
“Excelera and Smith & Nephew to partner on speciality pharmaceuticals“
Executive Director of Infusion Services and Specialty Pharmacy, UnityPoint at Home, Ruth Coady, said: “This partnership with Smith & Nephew is an exciting opportunity to expand our capabilities to care for a new patient base, and collaborate with additional UnityPoint Health providers. It gives us the opportunity to coordinate care with our Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses team to improve patient outcomes where gaps in care had previously existed.”
