NHS Business Plan Dives into Diagnostics

Science

The most recent NHS strategy includes measures that will be implemented to accomplish the 2023 mandate goals. These include wait lists, repairing performance, development, retention, and reforming staff operations, and carrying out the NHS Long Term Plan.

Deep Dive into Diagnostics

“One notable part of the plan is the £2.3 billion in capital investment set aside for promoting diagnostic service advancement“

One notable part of the plan is the £2.3 billion in capital investment set aside for promoting diagnostic service advancement, involving digital diagnostics and digital diagnostic infrastructure in 2025. This plan intends to use digital means to help reduce wait times and cancer queues.

By March 2025, it is hoped that 95% of individuals would have had a diagnostic test in less than six weeks. The creation of a Patient Initiated Digital Mutual Aid System (PIDMAS) “will offer patients the ability to opt-in to move provider when they have been waiting over 40 weeks for care”.

Back in 2022, the significance of digital in the NHS's business plan was analysed. The main objectives were to address pandemic threats, improve the way that health and care are delivered, and employ data and digital tools.

The role of digital in promoting the availability of primary care and achieving an occupancy rate target of 80% for virtual wards was highlighted as part of their resilient system roles and responsibilities scheme for this winter.
