Unilabs & Mindpeak Partner to Expedite Breast Cancer Screening

One of the top suppliers of diagnostic services, Unilabs, has entered into a contract with Mindpeak, a company that offers AI solutions for digital pathology. This technology will expedite and improve Unilabs’ breast cancer screening.

Christian Rebhan, Chief Medical and Operations Officer at Unilabs, explained that “this development will transform the way pathologists work and will allow us to better serve our customers.”

The rollout has begun at Unilabs St Göran’s lab in Stockholm and will gradually spread to other regions of Sweden, eventually being implemented across other nations in which Unilabs operates.

The current process for breast cancer diagnosis is slow because it must be done manually. You must be able to find and measure immunohistochemically stained tumour cells in order to provide a diagnosis.

Pathologists can identify relevant cells much faster with the aid of Mindpeak AI, which reduces the reporting period by around 60% and guarantees consistent repeated findings.

A faster identification of the problem means that diagnosis can be achieved rapidly and accurately, and as a result, therapy to treat the patient can start sooner.
