Merger Between Dentex and Portman Dental Firms May Cause Competitive ProblemsDental
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) found in its preliminary research that a forthcoming merger between Dental suppliers Dentex Healthcare Group Limited and Portman Healthcare Limited would not adversely affect most people. However, steps must be taken to prevent potential complications for residents of the South West and North East.
When they become a collective entity, the firms would run over 400 UK dental facilities between them.

Although there will still be enough competition in the majority of situations following the merger, the CMA determined that the agreement will cause competition issues in some areas for the delivery of NHS orthodontic care and private treatments.
They had also discovered that the move could limit the availability of expert dedicated dental care.
When considering NHS contracts for orthodontic treatments.
The companies have urged the CMA to share solutions to resolve these issues.
CMA Senior Director of Mergers, Sorcha O’Carroll, explained that “while in the majority of areas the deal will not harm patients, we are concerned that it could lead to less choice, lower quality and higher prices for patients in certain parts of the UK.”
