Spectrum Science acquires long-time UK partner, Aurora Healthcare Communications

Last Thursday, Spectrum Science stated that it has acquired Aurora Healthcare Communications, among other agencies housed under the This is Avalon Group umbrella. Aurora, a UK-based consultancy, has worked alongside Spectrum for years as part of a network of independent health and science communications agencies, Global Health Marketing and Communications, chaired and founded by Spectrum. Going forward, the companies will operate under the GMHC brand.

Aurora will retain its leadership team and their brand identity. Cofounder Clair Eldridge will remain Aurora CEO, with cofounder Neil Crump serving as chief growth officer of GHMC.

Following the June acquisition of Sonic Health and the Seismic Collaborative, this deal has continued Spectrum’s acquisition binge, with Monroe Capital financing all three acquisitions.

The Aurora addition introduces capabilities to the agency, said Spectrum CEO, Jonathan Wilson.

Wilson stated, “They’re focused on patients and advocacy. They bring that strength to what we offer as an agency. When we looked at what we’re doing and the amount of work we’re doing together through the network that we’ve built, it just made a lot of sense.”

During unstable economic times, Wilson said that the industry has a reputation for robust performance concerning challenges related to the impending potential for a recession and record-high inflation. He added that agencies had acquired numerous opportunities from a strategic perspective due to ongoing innovation in the biopharma area.

Tim Goddard, Spectrum president, added that a mutual commitment to long-term relationships and the trust and familiarity between the two brands drove the leaders to pursue a deal.

He said, “We know we can service work in a global way. Many of our competitors don’t collaborate that way, so we’re entering this acquisition from a place of excitement based on that well-established relationship and history of success.”
