Grangemouth Site Expansion Led by Piramal Pharma

10th March 2022

Piramal Pharma, based in India, has received £45 million in funding to expand their Grangemouth factory. They aim to hire an additional 50 employees, raising their total to over 250. They will be working in antibody drug manufacturing for external medicine developers.

The hope is that the new Grangemouth facility will increase production and efficiency for Piramal and help in testing cancer treatments.

The site development will work in a series of stages. The initial stage will involve a pair of ADC (Antibody-Drug Conjugate) production suites built alongside the three that are already currently operating there.

Chief Executive of Scottish Enterprise, Adrian Gillespie, expressed that “Piramal’s investment is tremendous news for Scotland’s life sciences sector. With Scottish Enterprise support, the company’s Grangemouth site expansion proposals will deliver more R&D and production capacity for the development, scale-up and commercial manufacture of drugs in the global fight against cancer.”

Chief Executive of Piramal Pharma, Peter DeYoung, commented that “This new development will more than double our ADC production capacity, strengthening our ability to service customers throughout the entire drug lifecycle.”
