Virbac has introduced online dentistry training geared at receptionists to aid in encouraging the importance of animals’ oral health. It was developed on the premise that those at the front of the veterinary clinic have a lot of interaction with pet owners prior to and after appointments, this provides a great opportunity to discuss their pet's oral health.
Gum disease affects approximately four in five dogs and one in seven cats by the time they are three, making it the most common condition afflicting the animals.
“The aim of the webinars is to give receptionists the confidence to proactively discuss dental care with clients.“
Virbac has produced three online conferences addressing dental health from a variety of perspectives. They achieved this in collaboration with the BVRA (British Veterinary Receptionist Association).
Video one: examines gum disease, its phases, and the imperative nature of dental health.
Video two: discusses active and passive domestic care regarding oral health, as well as treatments available and when they should be explored.
Video three: communicating with pet owners and how to deal with frequent protests like “brushing is too difficult”.
Virbac’s Product manager, Dan Johnson, explained that “the aim of the webinars is to give receptionists the confidence to proactively discuss dental care with clients. The impact of periodontal disease can be severe, both locally and systemically, and practices can see a real benefit from investing in their reception teams.”
