Lorna Branton returns to NHS Digital head of media

Healthcare Communications

Lorna Branton’s first job in the healthcare communications industry was in the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman as an assistant. Shortly after that she had a brief role as PR officer for the Redbridge and Waltham Forest Health Authority before moving to the University of Sheffield for three years in the role of media relations manager. Her next job was as the head of external communications at Sheffield Hallam University before her move to NHS Digital in 2014 which lasted just shy of 7 years.

Lorna Branton now manages 8 employees as part of her team in her new role as head of communication for GP data at NHS Digital. She has recently engaged in both organisation and research for the company.

“This is a bit of a passion project of mine. It is the first time I’ve worked on one project rather than corporately“

In November of 2020, Branton had left her position at NHS Digital, where she was head of media and campaigns. Now she is working at Sherwood Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the role of executive lead for communication.

Speaking to PRWeek, Lorna Branton said “This is a bit of a passion project of mine. It is the first time I’ve worked on one project rather than corporately, but I really believe in the power of GP data to support better health and care, and in the transparent communications approach which we have committed to. The role is a real opportunity to show how complex conversations can be held with the public as part of a strategic communications approach and to demonstrate how research, early engagement and active listening can shape a national programme. I am incredibly excited to get started and am lucky to have a really talented team working with me.”
