Thermo Fisher Scientific's TaqPath COVID-19 CE-IVD RT PCR Kit has been independently authenticated

Science

Thermo Fisher Scientific recently published that its TaqPath COVID-19 CE-IVD RT PCR Kit has been independently authenticated as reaching the performance characteristics for the COVID-19 quarantine protocol testing required for foreign travellers landing in the United Kingdom on Day 2 and Day 8.

Travellers entering the United Kingdom are subject to quarantine limitations that vary based on their country of origin. However, most will be obliged to quarantine for ten days once they enter. Those travellers must complete a PCR test on days two and eight following their isolation to check for an existing SARS-CoV-2 infection. The TaqPath kit from Thermo Fisher Scientific is now approved for use in that surveillance by laboratories and clinics.

“Thermo Fisher Scientific's TaqPath COVID-19 CE-IVD RT PCR Kit has been independently authenticated.“

Vice President, Commercial EMEA, life sciences, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Claire Wallace, stated: "Quarantine and surveillance programs such as the one in the United Kingdom are important for helping curb the spread of SARS-CoV-2 and its variants as countries begin to reopen. Thermo Fisher's strong supply chain of highly accurate COVID-19 PCR tests has been fundamental in the symptomatic testing for SARS-CoV-2 in the United Kingdom since the pandemic started and we are excited that independent validation for this additional use will help to increase testing availability as the international travel season begins."
