Pharmacies in Scotland are trialling the 'NHS Near me' video consultation service, with a chance of it becoming part of a new method, across community pharmacies after the pandemic.

Video consultations have been conducted by GP's for a while, and it has been proven beneficial in rural areas of Scotland. Pharmacists have used video consultations in hospital settings, as well as GP practices, but not in urban community pharmacies.

Chair of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, Jonathon Burton, outlined that the video consultation system will give pharmacists the ability to interact with patients more effectively, including people who live in rural areas and can't access a pharmacy.
