Baxter International has been named the 2007 Medical Products Industry Leader of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, marking the sixth time it has topped the index since its conception in 1999.
The pharmaceutical company was also named the industry leader for the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index.
Robert L Parkinson Jr, Baxter's chairman and chief executive officer, expressed the company's pride at being recognised for its commitment to activities that promote a sustainable world.
"As a global corporation, we believe that we have a responsibility to balance society's current and future needs with the goals of the business," he said.
Baxter received best scores across a number of performance areas - including bioethics, codes of conduct and environmental performance - in order to claim the top spot on the index.
The Dow Jones Sustainability indices are derived from its Global Index and are the world's first benchmarks in monitoring the financial performance of companies who are driven by issues of sustainability.
Earlier this year, Baxter announced that the sale of its transfusion therapies business to Texas Pacific and Maverick Capital has been completed, with the division divested for $540 million (276.77 million pounds).See all the latest jobs in Medical Devices
