TITLE: Medical Information Scientist

STATUS: 6-month contract

LOCATION: Newbury, Berkshire

JOB PURPOSE:
" To provide balanced, substantiated and relevant information about all Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals (BHP) products on request to medical and pharmaceutical professionals, external bodies and members of the public. This must be done in accordance with all relevant legislation and guidelines including EU directives, UK Medicines Law, the ABPI Code of Practice, MHRA guidelines for the advertising and promotion of medicines in the UK and other agencies such as the Advertising Standards Authority and company standard operating procedures.

" To support marketing, sales and medical development activities by the provision of medical, ABPI and technical advice and guidance in accordance with business strategy and corporate compliance.

" To maintain up-to-date awareness and knowledge of products/therapy areas and ensure relevant information is passed to colleagues.

" To maintain up-to-date awareness and knowledge of ABPI code of practice.

" To carry out company processes for unsuccessful Mirena insertions (UMI) and product technical complaints.

" To provide logistical support to BHP Business Units by the distribution of non-promotional materials.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
" To ensure adherence to industry-specific codes of practice (including the ABPI) or conduct, advertising codes, regulatory directives and guidelines, as applicable to the role, and to the Program for Legal Compliance and Corporate Responsibility at Bayer.

" To work with relevant Business Unit members on marketing strategies and production of promotional, educational and PR materials, with supervision as appropriate.

" To ensure materials produced are compliant with the ABPI Code of Practice as well as the business strategy and corporate compliance, with supervision as appropriate.

" Generation of materials in conjunction with relevant business unit personnel e.g. literature updates, clinical summaries, conference reports, current awareness services.

" Involvement in other business unit activities as required.

" To provide a comprehensive technical information service to both internal and external customers on Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals products.

" To participate in the telephone rota supporting all BHP products.

" An opportunity to undertake out of hours cover. This role is entirely discretionary and dependant upon an individual's willingness to participate. The task will be subject to additional remuneration according to the defined schedule.

" To understand, use and update Medical Information databases.

" To work with the Business Units in the initiation, development and implementation of relevant training material.

" Updating of sales teams on relevant issues e.g. via regional meetings.

" To provide training and support for members of Medical Information on general medical information and product knowledge.

" To maintain own current awareness/knowledge by journal scanning and attending internal and external meetings/conferences/courses as appropriate.

" To undertake literature searches in a variety of corporate and commercial databases.

" To interpret results of searches, identify and understand implications for the Business and alert relevant personnel.

" Develop and maintain a good working knowledge of the ABPI Code of Practice and other guidelines

" Represent the Medical Department at meetings, acting as a product specialist.

" Represent Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals at external meetings and symposia as appropriate.

" To process all telephone calls, e-mails, faxes and written requests in accordance with standard operating procedures. Responses must be made in a clear, concise, grammatically correct, accurate and professional manner.

" Source and copy enclosures for letters to internal and external customers (ensuring copy right is adhered to).

" To manage product technical complaints as required by the standard operating procedure

" To administer the unsuccessful Mirena insertion (UMI) programme

To maintain the enquiry handling database as required. Including drafting standard answers and frequently asked questions related to specific assigned marketed and non- marketed products

* Knowledge and understanding of the ABPI code of practice.
* Relevant industry experience
