In the UK, there are over two million people diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes (T2D), and patient numbers are increasing: the prevalence of diabetes is expected to grow by 50% over the next 20 years. We have a responsibility towards this ever-increasing number of patients to ensure they receive appropriate treatment. Januvia, which came to market in 2007 and was the first DPP-4 inhibitor for patients with T2D, is currently the biggest growth driver for MSD UK and is our second largest brand. Over the last 12 months, our franchise has grown by an incredible 20.4%. It is projected from current and future global pharma markets that the world's top brand in 2018 will be the diabetes treatment Januvia/Janumet.

In the General Medicine Business Unit, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Brand and Customer Manager. This position will be highly visible and requires a commercially confident pharmaceutical marketer, and represents an excellent opportunity for a Senior Brand and Customer Manager who would benefit from joining a busy marketing department and embrace the challenge of driving continued growth of Januvia and Janumet in a highly competitive market.

This role will be focused on developing and implementing the UK marketing strategy (1-3 years) for Januvia and Janumet.

The successful applicant will be responsible for a wide range of activities across the marketing mix, delivering key components of the marketing strategy and operational plan that address critical success factors to ensure the achievement of agreed sales and market share objectives for these brands. The Senior Brand and Customer Manager will play a key role in the integration of other functions essential to the development and delivery of these marketing objectives.

The successful applicant will:

o Work closely with and support the Brand and Customer Managers within the Franchise in the delivery of marketing activities e.g. the generation of materials and claims messaging for all our target audiences.

o Lead plans for brand communication, training and campaign rollout at cycle meetings.

o Implement innovative support packages that assist the sales team in maintaining and growing market share.

o Liaise and collaborate with Healthcare Access to ensure the Customer Value Proposition remains relevant and tailored to local needs.

o Agree and co-ordinate market research and ensure that customer insight drives brand strategy and tactic development.

o Support the development and implementation of the UK advocacy plan to drive positive clinical advocacy.

o Work with External Affairs to ensure professional issues management and media engagement to protect and build the reputation and success of our brands.

o Project manage external agencies, including creative, professional relations and medical education vendors to develop programmes and materials as required.

o Manage the marketing budget and project timelines, and continually assess return on investment.

o Ensure performance tracking/ monitoring including any required remedial action.

o Maintain compliance.

Person Profile

Qualifications: Educated to degree level or equivalent. ABPI qualified. Full driving licence.

Experience Required: Experience in commercially-focused sales and marketing roles: already operating at Senior Brand and Customer Manager level with a recent successful track record in ethical pharmaceutical marketing. Cross-functional/ matrix working.

Skills/ Knowledge Required: Proactive with a can-do attitude. Results-driven with proven implementation ability. Demonstrated excellence in project management and effectively managing multiple projects and priorities. Ability to influence and work in a collaborative way, and communicate effectively within the organisation to ensure the alignment of the sales force and other key stakeholders in the achievement of product objectives. Communicates candidly with strong verbal, written and presentation skills. Ability to interpret market data and clinical outcomes and link to commercial opportunities. Understanding of NHS market access environment. Strong understanding of, and experience within, the diabetes therapy area.
