Job Purpose
Secure funding and maximum access for current and future products
? This is a leadership role defining the strategic response to the changing market environment and finding innovative solutions on how to shape and maximise the health care environment to Abbott’s EPD portfolio advantage
? Champion the payer perspective and drive it into brand strategy and implementation and develop a co-ordinated strategy for engaging effectively with the NHS, including how to deal all questions about value propositions and reimbursement
? Develop a network of Key Opinion Leader in the health economic payor sector and develop an excellent understanding of and close relationships with the needs and requirements of UK decision makers / payers
Major Accountabilities
• Define the strategic actions to the changing market environment, find innovative solutions on how to defend Abbott EPD products on the market and potential new entries
• Ensure most optimal pricing and reimbursement at national and local level by proactively maintaining and optimising access
• Work closely with other functions such as Medical, Finance and AI Government Affairs to build networks, understanding and close relationships with decision makers and leverage influence through joint programmes of action
• Ensure collaboration with AI UK and EPD AREA, and maintain an awareness and understanding of the impact of local affiliate decisions on Abbott’s global business
• Anticipate and influence Contracting & Tendering situations. Lead and coordinate with other functions (e.g. sales force reps, KAM payers/providers, legal, finance, AREA) to share information about C&T situations and oversee the establishment of solutions
• Develop strategies to deal with C&T challenges in collaboration with other functions, considering the implications to broader business
• When applicable, conduct post-negotiation win/loss reviews with involvement from other functions (e.g. finance, market research)
• Coach Affiliate Management Team in Market Access, constantly drive for excellence and ensure proper training for key internal stakeholders (HDEs, Medical Affairs)
Provide strategic direction
? Provide leadership and strategic direction in order to ensure funding and that Abbott products obtain and maintain optimal pricing, reimbursement status and listing on tenders while facilitating patient access to the best available treatment
? Create a Market Access / Payer Strategy covering market access, patient access, and service redesign and product differentiation.
? Work closely with the General Manager and the Affiliate Management team to deliver and support all strategic goals
? Lead payer engagement and drive the generation of market access relevant customer and competitor insights
? Identify areas where the greatest opportunities and challenges for product growth lie.
? Ensure internal and external (payer advisory boards) input, validation and feedback on payer insights, payer value proposition and market access strategy
? Develop a national access strategy that incorporates contingencies for future access needs
? Develop and disseminate Abbott UK EPD Market Access Strategy
Ensure excellent market access
? Drive Payer Opinion leader development
? Continuously optimize payer value proposition and pricing policy.
? Proactively monitor external environment, customers and competitors to identify opportunities for protecting and improving value capture and expanding access, incl. innovative pricing arrangements
? Identify funding pathways and key decision makers for all portfolio products.
? Ensure the effective translation of economic arguments into commercially relevant language (compelling arguments formulated in easy to understand language)
? Education of key external decision makers via lectures, papers, presentations.
? In Brand team Setting develop tools to convince local payers to fund / reimburse therapies, i.e., prepare materials, meetings, networking events
? Communicate project issues and progress effectively and in a timely manner to all stakeholders (e.g., AI Market Access and GA teams, EPD Global Market Access team)
? Proactively drive best practices and shared learnings
? Actively contribute to decisions on MAVP and Pricing
Cross functional working
? Drive team members to become integral to the brand teams ensuring attendance at regular meetings and drive them to build cross functional relationships
? Work closely with AI Communication and Government Affairs, lobbying relevant government departments and working with patient organisations on developing and implementing local health economic, communicative and publishing strategies.
? Collaborate closely with Health Economic Department with regards to all questions related to health economics
? Closely collaborate with other departments Development, Regulatory to help develop business cases
? Internal training to develop the brand team capabilities, and how best to communicate economic arguments and integrate them into local business cases.
General Accountability

Person Profile
Skills/Experience Requirements Experience and knowledge:
Professional experience in one of the key Health Care UK bodies
Proven success in creating and executing Market Access / Payer strategies in the UK in a pharmaceutical company.
Strong knowledge of pricing methods, health economics and reimbursement. Experience in preparing submissions, value dossiers, publications and other document to supports pharmaceutical products in gaining access to patients in the UK.
Preferably experience of developing, building and managing a UK Market Access team.
An ability to bring 'insider' knowledge of the customers.
Experience of working in the NHS and a solid understanding of the internal workings of the NHS (PCT or equivalent desirable)
Demonstrable experience, knowledge and insight into the workings of the NHS & third/Private sector including funding flows and legislation affecting market access of pharmaceutical products.
An understanding of the changing dynamics and relationship between the pharmaceutical industry and the NHS.
Commercial focus, so hands on experience of running a commercial unit and an understanding of the bottom line
Demonstrated stakeholder management skills
Developed innovative market access / patient access solutions (not just price reduction schemes), that offers real partnership between pharma and all UK Payers.
Good understanding of EU health care systems, in order to have a EU perspective when making local affiliate decisions
Experience of People Management and succession planning.
Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, influencing and presentation skills.
High level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs
