Scientific Director

Title: Scientific Director - TBC

Cheshire

1. Account direction:
On larger accounts where there is both an AD and an SD, they are jointly responsible for account direction and divide the following responsibilities according to the account needs
Strategic direction: the external face of the AD aspect of the role.
o Proactively identify account opportunities and make recommendations
o Advise on budget priorities and budget spend
o Provide consultancy to client
Account development: the internal face of the AD aspect of the role.
o Work with the broader team to develop accounts and exploit business opportunities
o Develop account plans for existing clients and update regularly
o Arrange regular review meetings with client to review current status (performance and satisfaction) and prospectively plan future work
o Lead development of proposals/pitches on existing accounts
o Ensure the team has the resources matched to client needs and growth potential
Financial management:
o Work with team to develop account forecasts and targets
o Regularly update management/sales team as to financial forecast
o Maintain responsibility for account recovery rates
o Sign-off on project costs and specs

2. Editorial:
o Engage in a broad range of projects and therapy areas and provide account area expertise/advice to team and clients (commercial, therapy area and product related)
o Take scientific lead on strategic projects (e.g. opinion leader development, publication planning, communications planning) as appropriate
o 'Quality control' (review and constructively comment on) content developed by other editorial team members
o Provide guidance and direction to writers/editorial project leaders
o Work with editorial resourcing team to ensure adequate resourcing within account
o Lead client meetings
o Liaise with clients, authors and colleagues to progress projects effectively
o Input on project specifications, costings and schedules, working with the internal account team to ensure projects are delivered to time and budget
o Provide good briefings to colleagues and freelancers
o Attend congresses, symposia and advisory board meetings as required and liaise with speakers and clients
o Proactively solve problems on projects

3. Business development:
Core scientific/strategic member of NBD team
o Support BDD at credentials presentations and pitches
o Development of all aspects of proposals and responses to RFPs (lead/support)
o Responsibility for editorial resourcing with regard to BD support for credentials, pitches, proposals
o Strategic/commercial input into key accounts
o Support the wider sales team with new ideas for projects and programmes which Fishawack could deliver

4. Non-core: depending on individual and situations
o Line management of writer/editorial project leader
o Mentor writers/editorial project leaders
o Training
o Maintaining/updating editorial processes

Person Profile

In general terms we would expect their editorial experience to have included the following activities:

- Written primary and review articles for submission to peer-review journals

- Written materials used for promotional purposes (e.g. monographs, sales aids, slide kits etc)

- Experience of editorially leading the development of satellite symposia

- Experience of working on opinion leader development programmes

- Experience of having worked on or run a publication plan

- Experience of having worked on a number of different products at different stages of their lifecycle

- Experience of interacting with clients in a prominent capacity

- Being the editorial lead and key client contact on a major account

In terms of client service they should have:

- Proven experience developing strong client relationships

- Significant experience/understanding of budgets and costing projects

- Supported/led business development activities (proposals/pitches/service agreements)
