Title : Editorial Coordinator

Reports to : Publishing Manager

Role : The role is 50% technical editor and 50% journal publishing assistant so we would need someone who had an understanding of scientific papers (PhD would therefore be good as they will have had experience in compiling manuscripts for journals), and also someone with an interest in publishing. To offer editorial and project management support to the publishing team in order to ensure the successful online and print publication of journals published by the company

Key Duties :
1. Technical Editing
* With training and support, and following established processes, develop the skills required to efficiently assess and amend the structure, scientific content, consistency, accuracy and readability of manuscripts submitted on a variety of clinical topics to an in-house journal.
* Be able to provide clear, concise and meaningful comments to authors so that each manuscript is of a quality to get the international readership it deserves.
* Work as a proactive member of the journal team, taking responsibility for the final delivery of the manuscripts assigned, highlighting issues at the earliest opportunity and maintaining the overall journal schedule.

2. Journal Publishing
* Provide administrative support to Journal Publishing Manager and help them to manage the publication of journals including coordinating projects with internal departments, and managing project workflow of publishing segment.
* Provide support to the US office for enquiries relating to the journal. Provide some support to the Journal Commissioning Editor.

3. Editorial Peer Review
* Management of the peer review procedures for articles submitted to the journal and provide support to the Editor-in-Chief, authors and reviewers during the peer review process.
* Project and relationship management skills are essential, including the ability to relate successfully to a variety of people externally and internally and to form strong relationships with key decisions makers such as those within the research community and editorial team.
* Act as first point of contact for authors with queries regarding submission of manuscripts to company journal
* Ensure that acknowledgement correspondence is sent out to all corresponding authors within the journal specified timelines
* In conjunction with Journal Publishing Manager ensure each submitted article is sent in a timely manner to the identified referees
* Allocate appropriate peer reviewers for manuscripts (in terms of subject area and according to reviewers agreed availability)
* Work within journal specified deadlines with referees to ensure timely review and comments on all manuscripts through:
i. Supporting/training referees in the use of online forms
ii. Telephoning referees to remind them of deadlines
* Provide comprehensive administrative support for team, referees and authors throughout all stages of the process by:
i. Providing information to authors on all milestones in their manuscript submission and review process
ii. Managing administrative problems on new manuscripts
iii. Maintain records on manuscript tracking database including logging of all communications
* Work with Project Manager to ensure timely accurate invoicing of all page charges

4. Any other duties as required by Manager





Person Profile

Candidates :

* Experience of working with Peer-Reviewed Publications
* Ideally degree level education in life sciences
* Keen interest in Publishing


Interview Process

Initial 30 minute interview to discuss experience & the role followed by a 30min copy editing test.

Second interview may involve further discussions regarding suitability for the role and meet the team.
