The role of a Health Economist
Health economists look into the distribution of resources and the maintenance of occupational health within the healthcare system. They play a key role within researching, analysing, and monitoring the quality and cost effectiveness of medical procedures, regulations, products or services.
Career development:
There are diverse range of opportunities available to health economists, as you can work in both the private and public sector within the healthcare sector. Careers include; working in hospitals, academia, pharmaceutical companies, research faculties, biotechnology companies, health insurance companies and within the government.
Qualifications:
Health Economics is a growing and very competitive field. A graduate degree in economics is highly recommended, but depending on the company, undergraduate degrees are accepted. An analytical mind and deep interest for wanting to improve the health of public is also needed to succeed in this role.
