GC/GCMS Technical Specialist

Exciting Opportunity for a BSc or MSc educated scientist to join a leading company within the Analytical market as a Technical Specialist.

Territory: North UK (Manchester, Leeds, North of Nottingham)
Products: GC, GCMS, software packages.

Purpose of this Position:
The GC/GCMS Technical Specialist is responsible for supporting the continued growth of UK GC and GCMS Business with training and instrument support in the field across our GC/GCMS install base, and by conducting successful demonstrations to ensure customer success with our solutions.
This will be achieved by gaining a deep insight into individual customer challenges so that you can provide Excellence in Science in partnership with customers across the UK. In addition to supporting customers a high level of technical support will be provided to the GC/GCMS Sales Team to assist them to support the Regional Business opportunities. The Technical Specialist will meet all company expectations for customer demonstrations, support excellence as well as providing a constructive, collaborative interface between field sales and service colleagues, our customers, office colleagues and the UK LCMS Managers.

Key Responsibilities:

Post-sales
· Support customer success through highly competent, pro-active training and technical support.
· Providing customer training post-installation support to meet Best in Class standards.
· Make field visits to existing customers to support their on-going success and further develop our customer base, through to enhance confidence and develop reference advocates and sites.
· Being adaptable, having the confidence and independence to determine the best course of action when dealing with customers.
· Work alongside the Service team to support non-hardware-based requirements, and to provide seamless service and support

Pre-Sales
· Work with the sales team to plan and conduct high-quality, effective and memorable customer evaluations.
· Enable the transfer of customer applications to GCMS hardware in support of the sales process.
· Providing technically accurate and commercially appealing reports which promote the benefits of the solutions following demonstration and sample analysis.
· Demonstrating technical leadership in the marketplace to present the company as the GCMS(GC) vendor of choice.
· Be active in the field providing technical support for the GCMS(GC) sales activities via joint customer visits with the sales team.
· Ensuring work areas within the UK Evaluation Laboratory relating to the GCMS(GC) product line are kept in pristine condition.
· Presenting Product and Application specific information at external conferences/meetings.
· Provide product and application specific training to the UK sales team, in conjunction with the GCMS(GC) Sales Manager.
· Attend meetings and maintain positive relationships with global support teams.

The Activities of the Technical Specialist can include such elements as:
1) Customer visits, which can be pre- or post-sales
2) Analysis of customer samples
3) Technical and Scientific presentations at customer, internal and external meetings
4) Supporting the development of new applications - with customers and in-house
5) Demonstrations of GCMS(GC) instrumentation
6) Training days for customers, typically at customer site
7) Monthly reporting and handling of all relevant technical requests and issues


What we are looking for:
· Preference for candidates typically qualified to BSc or MSc level with a significant emphasis on chromatography or analytical chemistry.
· Significant experience and understanding in mass spectrometry and/or gas chromatography.
· Strong understanding of software systems.
· Strong understanding of specialised detectors such as ECD, TCD, NPD, FPD and PDHID.
· Sound understanding of the use of a wide range of sample introduction techniques
· Willingness to travel and spend a significant amount of time away from home, including European travel when required.
