Wassenburg & Co B.V., based near Nijmegen, Netherlands, designs, develops and manufactures a range of products for the decontamination and storage of flexible endoscopes. A family company, established in 1984 by Gerrit Wassenburg, it now supplies global health markets including a wide userbase in the U.K. The company has more than 80 employees.
Prior to the acquisition, Dawmed International Ltd was a leading UK-based supplier of specialist medical washer/disinfectors. The company had been in the business for over 35 years. Dawmed International Ltd was established in 1997 following a management MBI/MBO of the medical division of the former company.
John Crispin, Managing Director of Wassenburg Ltd (formerly Dawmed's Managing Director), worked for the company since 1983 and has been involved in the development of washer/disinfector standards since the early 1990s when he was co-opted as an industry expert by the NHS to chair the committee that compiled the British Standard BS2745.
Thereafter he was an active member of CEN/TC102/WG8, the Working Group responsible for compiling the new international standard BS EN ISO 15883 for washer/disinfectors. Prior to the acquisition, Dawmed had over the last 9 years developed the Wassenburg business in the U.K. for decontaminating flexible endoscopes.
