Area Account Manager

Job Purpose:

To maximise sales and profit within a defined geographical boundary by providing effective account management and first class customer support. This means growing existing customers and winning new business.

To also achieve key commercial objectives through the creation of strong customer relationships across range of existing and prospect customers.

Role Complexity:

The role involves a variety of tasks which all require a good understanding of the categories and commercial offer, customer behaviour, trading partners, the retail pharmacy market and competitive environment.

Innovation and Creativity:

Propositions and commercial packages, while often complex, are prescribed to the sales team by Category Heads and the Head of Sales. There is limited commercial variation within these propositions and packages.

Autonomy and Independence:

The role requires working alone but with established procedures and instructions and supported by both the Head of Department and wider business.

Principle Accountabilities:

Account Development and Territory Planning

" To construct and maintain an effective and segmented journey plan

" Plan daily workload in line with the journey plan

" Maintaining all territory and customer records\systems as directed

" Business analysis of both existing and prospect customers

" Internal reporting to Head of Region regarding all aspects of business development

" On-going monitoring and reporting of competitor activity

Sales " Undertake detailed pre-call preparation and planning prior to the working day

" Evaluation and planning of each call in order to benchmark achievement

" Achieving targeted levels of sales, mix and where appropriate profit from all customers

" Analysis of customer financial data, purchasing habits and customer needs

Administration " Complete all administration accurately and on time

" Maintain all company equipment to a high standard

" Ensure that all customer administration is completed correctly and communicated in a timely and effective way

" Communication across all company functions is made to successfully deliver the territory plan

People - Internal

" Regular communication with Head of Region to support achievement of business objectives

" Develop an effective working relationship with colleagues both at the head office and at the local service centre

" Regular communication with and support for colleagues in regional and functional team

People - External

" Develop and maintain key customer and industry relationships

" Be a full participant in the ongoing management of customer relationships and understand key influencing factors within key customer groups

" Maintain appropriate informal external contacts in order to secure up to date market and competitor activity

Key Dimensions:

" Multi £M turnover

" Responsibility for up to 150 customers plus prospecting activity

" Working in a team of 9 AAMs
