This
is a very niche customer group. Veterinary Surgeons
are employed in General Practice, veterinary teaching,
research organisations and also
provide various Government Services, for example, the
Department of Health, Food Standards Agency and the
Department of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries. They
also fill many Research & Development positions
in commercial organisations.
Companion animal vaccine
sales are on the up - reflecting the Veterinary Product
Committee's affirmation in it's
report published in February 2002 that 'vaccination
plays a very valuable role in the prevention and control
of the major infectious diseases in cats and dogs'.
But still the majority of the UK's cat and dog population
are not regularly vaccinated and remain vulnerable
to infection by preventable disease.
However, the media and TV programmes contribute to
a growing trend to invest in the health and wellbeing
of the nation's pets – leading to potential
for the Veterinary Medicine market to be a growth
area for the industry to maximise.
Sales in the Veterinary Sector is a niche, competitive
market – demanding high levels of both technical
and sales competence from those that work within
it.
