The main responsibilities of a Sales Representative in this industry is to call on independent pharmacies and small chains. You will also be responsible for marketing and selling your products to Head Office-based Key Account Managers and National Account Managers. Very often Pharmacy Sales jobs and OTC (over the counter) sales jobs are classifies as the same thing. What does being a Sales Representative in this industry or in the Over-the-Counter (OTC) industry entail: It will be your job to sell and market medicines to Pharmacies. The medicines you will be selling will vary and they will include all the usual products you expect to see behind a counter at a Pharmacy. They will include products like some of the stronger medicines, anti nausia tablets, medication that makes you drowsy or might impare day to day activities, diet pills, medication that is not on prescription but might have side effects that impare a person for a period of time ect, As a Sales Representative you will sell your product to a Pharmisists based on its benefits, cost and efficiency. You will not necessarily need to be an expert in a particular field as you will be selling more than one product at a time so a broad knowledge of your products is better than a high knowledge of only some of your products. Most pahrmaceutical companies sell numerous over the counter products and you will, more than likely, be tasked with promoting a range of these products at once. It will therefor also be expected from you to encourage Pharmacists to order as many different products from you as possibe and in as big a quanity as possible. There will often be flexability on the price of your products so your sales job will also involve negotions on a fair price for each product. You do not need to have a specific qualificaton behind your name or be a specialist in a certain field to become an OTC Sales Representative. You would, however, benefit from having the following personality traits: - Self motivation

- A keen appreciation to learn about the market and your competitors
- A people person
- Persuasiveness - you need to be able to change the minds of Pharmacists who have preconcieved ideas.
