Clinical trials have to be carried out before a drug is released on the market. The first phase of clinical trials is where the drug is tested on healthy humans to monitor any side effects. A trial is then carried out on a small group of patients with the condition/ disease. Once these are complete, a larger study is carried out on patients with the condition.
