Agfa HealthCare wins contract to supply 15 hospitals with PACS

Posted on 05/07/2006 in Medical Company Product News

Agfa HealthCare has won a contract to provide 15 hospitals under the jurisdiction of the Western Norway Regional Health Authority.

With over 800,000 examinations taking place each year between the hospitals, Agfa will install various radiology information systems and picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) to both public and private vendors in the area.

The system will enable patients in the area to go to any one of the 15 public or private hospitals and have their picture records instantly available. Similar systems from Agfa, GE Healthcare and Kodak have been installed in the UK.

The Agfa system will use software called InfoBroker, which will allow radiologists to use an on-screen toolbox with which patients' historical records can be accessed from any local hospital.

Integration is expected to be completed by the end of spring 2007, with some hospitals online in November 2006.

Last month, Agfa-Gevaert decided to divest the group into three separate businesses to achieve savings of 250 million euros by 2008. Part of the plans include the healthcare arm creating a turnover of 1.7 billion by 2008.

Marc Olive, president and chief executive officer of Agfa Healthcare, remarked: "Creating three independent businesses with a streamlined cost structure will give each group the best opportunity and the necessary means to strengthen its leading position in its respective markets."

"This plan is in the best interest of our customers, employees and shareholders," he concluded.
