Boehringer Ingelheim launches new online PPID aftercare service

7th July 2015

Boehringer Ingelheim has launched TAL Care and Connect, a new interactive online aftercare service for owners of horses with pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID).

It aims to support veterinary practices in monitoring their PPID caseload by streamlining ongoing case management processes, allowing profiles to be set up for each animal and their test results consolidated in one place.

Relevant reminders for follow-up testing will be sent out automatically, making it easier for vets to monitor their patient's progress over time. Additionally, an independently-written PPID owner information pack can be downloaded to provide horse owners with comprehensive information on the condition.

This comes as part of the company's successful disease awareness initiative, entitled Talk About Laminitis.

Liz Barrett, equine business manager at Boehringer Ingelheim, said: "PPID is a progressive disease, so it is vital that veterinary surgeons remain at the centre of care, and that horses are monitored carefully following their initial diagnosis. However, we recognise the high administrative demand associated with this."

Also known as equine Cushing's disease, PPID is an endocrine disease affecting the pituitary gland of horses. It is associated with the development of an unusually long coat of hair, as well as chronic laminitis.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801793627-ADNFCR
