Biogen Idec marks World MS Day with global activities
Biogen Idec is organising a series of events and activities to raise awareness of multiple sclerosis (MS) in order to mark World MS Day today (May 29th 2013).
Held annually at the behest of the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation, the campaign is taking place for the fifth time this year and aims to educate the public on the nature of the condition and its impact on the lives of sufferers.
All over the world, Biogen Idec is supporting the initiative with sponsored walks, educational outreach programmes, special promotions and live events, while it is also promoting World MS Day through the home page of the company's corporate website.
Moreover, the firm has taken the opportunity to launch a new campaign to inform national governments and EU politicians about MS, highlighting its human and economic impact.
Dr John Richert, vice-president for global medical affairs at Biogen Idec, said: "We are working diligently to address the needs of people living with MS, bringing them new hope – with the goal of improving their quality of life."
Last month, the company strengthened its position in the MS treatment market by taking over full ownership rights of the drug Tysabri, having bought out former partner Elan's stake in the product.
