Medtronic launches Mast Aligned SM procedure for spinal fusions
Medtronic has announced the launch of a new comprehensive surgical solution that offers benefits when performing minimally invasive multi-level spinal fusions.
The Mast Aligned SM technique includes technologies to access the spine – such as oblique lateral and interbody navigation – and biologics options, while also incorporating the multi-level percutaneous fixation system CD Horizon Longitude II.
This device can provide spinal stabilisation and correction as an adjunct to fusion in patients suffering from painful and debilitating disorders of the middle and lower back, in a less risky environment than traditional open-back surgery.
With the launch of Mast Aligned SM, patients suffering from advanced-stage conditions will be able to benefit from the use of Medtronic's Mast-based therapies for the first time.
Doug King, senior vice-president and president of Medtronic's spinal business, said: "We look forward to coupling availability of the procedure and associated technologies with initiatives aimed at growing patient access worldwide."
This week, the firm also announced the US approval and launch of its new Viva portfolio of cardiac resynchronisation therapy with defibrillation devices and Evera implantable cardioverter-defibrillators.
