Gilead Sciences reports positive opinions for HIV tablet
Gilead Sciences has confirmed the positive opinions of the Committee Medicinal Products for Human Use regarding its Marketing Authorisation Application for a once-daily tablet Stribild.
The biopharmaceutical company confirmed the scientific committee of the European Medicines Agency adopted a positive recommendation for the single tablet for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adult patients who are antiretroviral-naive or infected with the illness without known mutations.
Medical professionals have suggested the compound's potency, tolerability and once-daily dosing gives it the potential to become an important treatment option for patients who are new to therapy or those with no known resistance to any of the product's ingredients.
Stribild combines an elvitegravir, an integrase inhibitor, a cobicistat, a pharmacoenhancing agent, with Truvada.
John Martin, chairman and chief executive officer of Gilead Sciences, said: "We are pleased with today’s positive opinion from the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use and anticipate receiving a final decision from the European Commission on our application for Stribild in the coming months."
