St Jude Medical reports positive data from Trifecta vale study

21st March 2013

St Jude Medical has highlighted data from a new Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery study that demonstrates the benefits of its Trifecta biological pericardial aortic valve.

The Trifecta valve was evaluated in patients who required aortic valve replacement surgery, with data from the trial showing that the device offered an outstanding haemodynamic performance, easy usage and a strong safety profile.

Indeed, the haemodynamic performance of Trifecta was said to be comparable to that of a natural, healthy heart valve, thanks to its leaflets made of pericardial tissue attached to the exterior of the stent, which can open more fully and efficiently than alternative devices.

Frank Callaghan, president of the St Jude Medical cardiovascular and ablation technologies division, said: "These outstanding study results offer additional evidence of the value these valves can have for patients with aortic heart disease."

This comes after the firm commenced a new trial of its Amplatzer cardiac plug for the prevention of stroke in atrial fibrillation patients earlier this month.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801560539-ADNFCR
