Karl Storz’s C-MAC Pocket Monitor earns EMS World award
Karl Storz has announced that its C-MAC Pocket Monitor laryngoscope has earned an accolade at the recent EMS World Expo in New Orleans.
The device was named as one of MS World magazine's top 20 innovations for 2012, highlighting its status as an example of industry-leading technology, engineering and creativity in the emergency medical service sector.
Combining the convenience and utility of direct laryngoscopy with the advantages of a video laryngoscope, the unit is pocket-sized but incorporates a small LCD monitor mounted on the handle, greatly increasing its functionality.
It is optimised for use in applications when portability is essential, such as during intubations performed by ground and air emergency medical service personnel, in tactical medicine and combat casualty care and in use by hospital call teams.
Michael Lyman, director of marketing for anaesthesiology and emergency medicine at Karl Storz, said: "The C-MAC Pocket Monitor was developed to offer an ideal solution for situations where an intubation device must be carried to the patient, whether in the field or on the floor."
Karl Storz was founded in 1945 and is now a leading international medical device manufacturer, with a portfolio comprising more than 8,000 products.
