Elsevier announces first global food conference

7th February 2013

Elsevier has confirmed it will host the first international conference on global food security in the Netherlands this September.

The publishing company is set to organise the proceedings, which will run until October 2nd, alongside an International Scientific Committee to address the issue at both local and global levels.

In addition, the event will present state-of-the-art interdisciplinary insights and research on the topic and address the trade-offs that take place in reconciling competing environmental, social and economic outcomes at differing scales.

Keynote speakers include several figures from the industry including Sir John Beddington – chief advisor to the UK government – and Rachel Kyte – vice president of sustainable development at the World Bank.

Commenting on the proceedings, conference chairs professor Ken Giller and professor Martin van Ittersum of Wageningen University said: "There is a global need to better understand the economic, social, biophysical, technological and institutional drivers of current and future global food security."ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801536350-ADNFCR
