BD completes Safety Syringes takeover
BD has finalised its takeover of Safety Syringes, a specialist developer of anti-needlestick devices for prefilled syringes.
The California-based company has been purchased for an unspecified fee, a move that will help to expand BD's healthcare worker safety portfolio to include passive safety technologies for any prefillable syringe customer.
It is expected that the transaction will be minimally dilutive for the 2013 fiscal year and will not impact BD's previously communicated earnings guidance for the 12-month period.
The deal was originally announced in July 2012 and will allow BD to benefit from association with a category-leading brand in the passive needle shield and prefilled syringe guard sector.
Claude Dartiguelongue, president of BD Medical's pharmaceutical systems division, said: "We are excited about this acquisition, which expands the company's presence in safety technologies and further demonstrates BD's commitment to developing innovative solutions that help address our customers’ unmet needs."
This comes after the firm also agreed in August 2012 to purchase Sirigen, a developer of unique polymer dyes used in flow cytometry.
