Axiom launches sublingual immunotherapy option for pets
Axiom Veterinary Laboratories has announced the launch of Slit, a sublingual immunotherapy treatment for pets that fail to respond to allergy shots.
Intended for canine, feline and equine patients, the therapy has been demonstrated to be a beneficial alternative treatment option in a recent study, as well as being a commonly-used method among humans for more than 20 years.
Each allergy drop is prepared in a glycerin solution to provide antigen stability and has a slightly sweetened taste to make the administration process as stress-free as possible.
The Slit drops are also suitable for patients on a restricted budget, as it removes the need for ongoing consultation and injection fees.
Martyn Carpenter, director of Axiom Laboratories, said: "This method greatly reduces irritation and the likelihood of anaphylactic shock and can be administered easily at home by the client … removing the stress which accompanies a visit to the surgery for many pets."
Axiom is also responsible for developing Allergyvet, an in vitro serological allergy testing service that has served more than 150,000 patients to date.
