Merck Millipore makes World Water Week charity donation
Merck Millipore has agreed to provide $10,000 (6,300 pounds) to the philanthropic organisation charity: water, which is dedicated to bringing clean and safe drinking water to developing nations.
The life science firm made this contribution to coincide with World Water Week, with the latest donation being the third $10,000 payment made by Merck Millipore to charity: water.
Scott Harrison, founder and chief executive officer of the charity, said the funds will aid the organisation in its efforts to bring clean water to the people of Rwanda.
Over the last five years, Merck Millipore has supported water access schemes in India and Cote D'Ivoire, using rehabilitated wells in community centres and schools to help more than 2,000 people.
Robert Yates, head of Merck Millipore, said: "Providing clean water to those in need is important to Merck Millipore and our parent company, Merck KGaA. World Water Week is a great opportunity to focus on doing our part in alleviating this global issue."
Last month, the firm announced that it has agreed a deal to acquire cell-culture media and buffer solutions provider Biochrom, a transaction that is expected to close before the end of the year.
