Boston Scientific receives CE Mark for Precision Plus SCS system
Boston Scientific has been granted European CE Mark accreditation for its new Precision Plus spinal cord stimulator system (SCS).
The device is the world's first rechargeable SCS system and is specified for use among patients with chronic intractable pain of the trunk, delivering relief by way of peripheral nerve stimulation.
This condition involves continuous pain that lasts for more than six months and can have a devastating impact on patients' quality of life, affecting nearly 95 million adults across Europe.
Rechargeable SCS systems such as Precision Plus can offer clinical benefits by extending therapeutic longevity, therefore avoiding frequent replacement surgeries that can often result in complications.
Michael Onuscheck, senior vice-president and president of the Europe, Middle East and Africa region at Boston Scientific, said: "Expanding our neuromodulation portfolio to include peripheral nerve stimulation with the Precision Plus SCS System continues our commitment to providing physicians and patients with multiple treatment options for the management of this debilitating condition."
This comes after the company's left atrial appendage closure device Watchman received a CE Mark for an expanded indication last week.
