SCA appoints new general counsel

SCA has announced the appointment of Mikael Schmidt as its new general counsel, effective from October 1st 2012.

Mr Schmidt is taking up the role following the news that his predecessor Anders Nyberg will be leaving the company to take up a new job as executive vice-president of corporate governance and legal affairs at AB Industrivarden.

The new general counsel has been with the SCA group since 1992 and was most recently employed as head of legal affairs for the company's packaging operation, which was recently divested.

Jan Johansson, SCA's president and chief executive officer, gave thanks to the outgoing Mr Nyberg, who has served the company in various senior roles for 24 years.

He added: "Mikael Schmidt has an extensive and wide record of experience in international business and firm knowledge about our business."

The firm is currently undergoing a series of major restructuring efforts and generated net sales of 39.76 billion Swedish kronor (3.78 billion pounds) in the first half of 2012.
