Leo Pharma launches skin damage awareness initiative

22nd August 2012

Leo Pharma has launched a new UK campaign designed to raise awareness of the dangers of skin cancer and other conditions caused by exposure to sunlight.

The 'Give your skin a good FEEL' campaign has been introduced in association with the Karen Clifford Skin Cancer Charity (Skcin) and will be supported by media personality Amanda Holden.

A survey carried out by the pharmaceutical company revealed that 57 percent of people in the UK have experienced sun overexposure this year, but many people do not know what measures to take to protect themselves.

The new campaign will therefore aim to encourage people to check their skin for changes caused by sun damage, emphasising the need to feel the surface for signs of less visible conditions such as solar keratosis.

Charlotte Fionda, director of Skcin, said: "Sadly, public awareness of the dangers of overexposure to ultraviolet light is very poor. We hope the launch of this campaign will encourage people to be skin savvy."

It is estimated that around 10,600 people in the UK are diagnosed with the common skin cancer melanoma each year, with ultraviolet light from the sun or sunbeds the leading cause.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801433880-ADNFCR
